Dealing with Workplace Dating Drama
From Our Friends at The Frisky
A recent CareerBuilder survey shows that 40% of people have dated at work. A lot of us are petrified to take the plunge at the job, but The Frisky says that it can work as long as you stay away from the boss--and keep things on a level playing field.
Do you remember that 40% who date at the office? Well, 31% of those people end up marrying their workmate. It can happen!
Michelle Goodman, author of My So-Called Freelance Life (Seal Press), told The Frisky that we shouldn't rule people out just because they are from your job. "Where else can you go and quickly suss out who’s married with kids (that photo on the desk is a telltale sign) or single and fancy-free (their pre-meeting chitchat about their New Orleans weekend with the guys is often a dead giveaway)?!" she said in a chat with The Frisky.
When things do go wrong, though, they go really, really wrong. Let's say your "cubicle cutie" is your next door neighbor in the office, and you split up. Instead of sending him daggers of hatred with your eyes and peppering his space with tacks, The Frisky says, you should play the ignoring game, avoid all possible drama ("I need closure," etc.), and look extra-hot at work. That should do the trick right there, and if it doesn't? Find a reason to ditch your desk and get a new space.
If the spark's there, do you pursue? Read more at The Frisky.
