Michael Jackson’s ex-wife Debbie Rowe has hit back at “unequivocally false” reports that she has agreed a $4m deal to let the late singer’s mother have custody of their children. Her legal team rubbished the claims and fired off a furious letter demanding a retraction from the US newspaper that broke the story.

The letter sent to the editor of the New York Post states it is “a demand for an immediate retraction”. It says: “It would be easier to identify those few background facts that are accurate than to catalogue the number of blatant falsehoods in your story. “Particularly insidious is your misrepresentation that Ms Rowe has accepted money to give up custody rights. That statement is unequivocally false.” The letter goes on to state: “There has been no agreement reached between Ms Rowe and the Jacksons. “Ms Rowe has not and will not ‘give up her parental rights’. “No determination has been reached concerning custody or visitation… “Ms Rowe has not accepted – and will not accept – any additional financial consideration beyond the spousal support she and Michael Jackson personally agreed several years ago.” The letter is signed by Rowe’s lawyer, Eric George, who also told CNN the story is “completely false”. Rowe is the biological mother of Jackson’s two eldest children, Prince Michael and Paris.
