Demi Lovato Collaborates With John Mayer
Demi gets what she wants
Demi Lovato wanted her new album to have a "John Mayer-ish sound" and has always been a John Mayer fan. Well, now the lucky girl has a John Mayer-ish sound on her album. because John Mayer helped her with it!
Demi Lovato has said of John Mayer, "John Mayer's been a huge influence on me. His songwriting really inspires me. You hear music that has the same chord progression, but what he does, he changes it up. There's little things that make him stand out."
And John Mayer heard Camp Rock star Demi Lovato was a big fan of his. So he sent her a letter. And ended up helping her with her new album. Can you say dream come true for Demi Lovato? Demi was obviously super excited about working with him and says, "The process of the collaboration was actually really funny, because he's a really, really funny guy, and he talks a lot, so he'll go off on something... I had a great time. He taught me a lot about the business and gave me a lot of advice."
It seems as though Demi learned a lot from Mayer and the tow co-wrote a lot many of the songs on the album. Demi says, "He'd start writing lyrics and make it my own. It was really nice. One of the songs, he had written a lot on it, and we definitely wanted it to be a co-writing thing. So he was like, 'Take it home and finish it,' and I did, and he barely touched it. It was awesome. He really wanted it to be equal."
We can't even imagine how excited she must have been for the chance to work with John Mayer in the studio. And we love John a little bit more for offering to help one of his younger idols out. John Mayer's help could totally make Demi Lovato's album and her singing career. However, we are a little bit jealous as Demi talks about her favorite part of working with John: "I go straight from watching that DVD [Where the Light Is] to watching him play my favorite songs in the studio for fun. It was right there. It was so cool." Like we said, dream come true.
