Yes, no?

One of my favorite things to do, beauty-wise, is experiment with new treatments. I love trying hair masks and new exfoliation recipes, even though I occasionally clog the drain or get greasy. If you like to play around with olive oil, mayonnaise, and lemon juice, why not check out which ones really work?

The Daily Mail is on to something, and I like it. There are some treatments I've done after which I wonder just how good it really is... because things went pear-shaped. Their feature took several major home beauty fixes and then discussed whether or not each one was a good option for the standard home beauty maven.

Beer got a "yes" for adding extra body, but you've got to be ready to smell sort of strong after you use this treatment. Since body is not my concern, I don't use the technique, but it's nice to know it works. Have you ever found a solution to the smelly problem?

Interestingly, mayonnaise was also given two thumbs up. The combination of moisturizing properties plus water and waxes means that the emulsified blend is actually quite good for the hair. If you're a noob at beauty fixes, then start by trying a basic hair mask: apply one cup of mayo to dry hair, massage it in, leave it for 15 minutes (I wrap mine in aluminum foil, plastic wrap, or a warm, wet towel), and then rinse out before washing your hair like normal. Easy-peasy!

Olive oil was not as loved by the researcher-- I'm having a hard time believing this. I've always found olive oil to be very effective on my dry, split ends. The expert source claims that olive oil "just sits on the hair," so it is only useful if you can create an emulsion of oil and water. I wonder if I can do that in my blender?

There's more at BellaSugar, too, and now I feel inspired to go whip something up in the kitchen. What's your favorite at-home beauty treatment?
