Dolly Parton Explains Her Open Marriage

It must be frustrating to be a celebrity and know that some comment you make could be taken out of context at any time. Dolly Parton admitted that rumors that she and her husband had an "open marriage" aren't exactly true. There's more up ahead!

Dolly's husband is best known for his disinterest in "the biz." He doesn't show up to red carpet events events, and he doesn't have to--he has Dolly Parton's blessing to stay far from the limelight. As for those "open marriage" rumors? Dolly has a thing or two to say about those:

"That just means we let each other be who we are and how we are. But I'd kill him if I knew he was with somebody. We love people. He knows I'm a flirt and a tease, but it's harmless. I've never met the man that would take his place."

Dolly Parton has been with her husband, Carl, since 1964. Because she met him before she was famous, she told Oprah, she has always been at ease with him.

"I wasn't a star then, so I've never had to worry that he loves me because I'm a star and I've got money or make money or whatever. I know he loves me for me, and that means a lot to me," Dolly explained.

Mrs. Forever Fabulous Parton also said that Carl's personality has always been the type to make him shy away from big events, and she thinks he's just darling for sticking to his guns. 

"Early on in my career, I'd won [Song of the Year] in 1966, and I asked him to go with me. ... He was so uncomfortable," she said. "He said: ‘Now I want you to do everything you want to do. I want you to enjoy every minute of your life. But don't you ever ask me to go to another one of these things. Because I am not going.'"
