Donna Karan - Women in Fashion
She's a favorite!
I was just sitting here pondering who I should profile for this week's Women in Fashion, when Liz reminded me of Donna Karan. What a fabulous choice! Especially since she's been flying under the radar for a while.
Karan began her career at Anne Klein and soon worked her way up to head designer, where she stayed until 1989. It was at Klein that she developed the Essentials line and her legendary "seven easy pieces."
Donna then went on to establish her own company (DKNY), where she acted as head designer until 1997. She remains CEO of the company.
As well as the original DKNY line, the company has branched out to include Donna Karan, Donna Karan New York, as well as perfume lines for both men and women.
Her simple yet elegant (and functional!) clothes have always been a fashion staple. If you don't own any DK, now might be a good moment to consider adding her to your closet!
