Dr. Phil Gave HIMSELF a Vasectomy - Regrets It
Dr. Phil Says Vasectomy His Biggest Regret
Dr. Phil shared the biggest regret of his life in a Newsweek interview recently, and it's not for the squeamish.
He gave himself a vasectomy.
(Shudder.)
Dr. Phil McGraw reveals that oh-so-many years ago, when he was first married to wife Robin, that he helped give himself a vasectomy.
McGraw assisted the doctor with the operation and initially didn't tell his wife, who was actually pregnant with their first son Jay.
He tells Newsweek: "Shortly thereafter, while she was pregnant, I was doing work in another city with a good friend of mine. He said, ‘The office closes at five -- why don't you come in and we'll do your vasectomy?'"

Sounds like McGraw was all in, though the lack of a nurse meant he had to assist.
He continues, "He put me in the car with an ice pack, and I drove myself to the airport and flew home. That vasectomy was the biggest mistake I ever made. I was 29."
Seems a reversal was in order once he overheard Robin saying that she wanted more than one child: "The next day, I'm in the hospital lamenting it to my buddies. They're like, ‘We can reverse that, you know?'"

Dr. Phil got the reversal then and there and when he returned home, "hobbling up the driveway," his wife asked where he'd been. That's when he told her the whole story.
The happy ending of it all? Robin was pregnant six weeks later with son Jordan.
McGraw sums it up, stating, "I got a do-over on the biggest mistake of my life, and I am delighted that I did."
You have to wonder why he didn't discuss any of this vasectomy business with his wife though -- I'm pretty sure that's what he'd counsel some dude who was grappling with the decision to do.
