ESPN and Discovery to Release 3D Channels
It's like you're in the game!
James Cameron's Avatar isn't the only one to go three-dimensional. It's the latest trend in entertainment, and networks ESPN and Discovery are jumping on the band wagon. The two cable channels announced they will be broadcasting in 3D in the very near future.
According to a press release from ESPN, the sports network will launch ESPN 3D just in time for the FIFA World Cup on June 11th. It will be the first all three-dimensional television network available to consumers.
The network will broadcast up to 85 live sporting events in 3D, but will go dark everywhere in between. Other than the World Cup, there will be live games from the NBA, college basketball and football, as well as the Summer X Games.
The Discovery Channel also announced plans for a 3D network, as it will partner with Imax and Sony to release a full-time channel sometime in early 2011. Sony will release a series of 3D-capable TVs around Christmas, just ahead of the new channel's debut.
