Early Morning Earthquake Hits Los Angeles
No immediate reports of damage.
Southern Californians received a wake-up call early this morning when a 4.4 magnitude earthquake rumbled through the Los Angeles area.
Measured at 4.4 by the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake hit at 4 am and was probably not really strong enough to cause major damage other than knocking books off shelves and maybe breaking windows.
An earthquake of this magnitude is par for the course for anyone living in California, but with the recent destruction in Haiti and Chile, many are understandably on edge.
So could this be a "foreshock" to the next huge disaster earthquake?
"There's always a chance, but no, not realistically, no," John Bellini of the U.S. Geological Survey in Golden, Colorado, told ABCNews. "It's just part of the day-to-day seismicity they get in Southern California. People should always be ready, and have disaster plans in place, just in case."
