'Eclipse' is #1 But Doesn't Beat 'New Moon'

Pretty much everyone we've talked to has agreed that Eclipse is the best of the Twilight movies. And while it had an amazing opening weekend, coming in #1 at the box office, it still didn't beat last year's New Moon. Can you figure out why?

We were all excited to see how Eclipse would fare during its long holiday weekend opening. And it did fabulously as the #1 movie of the weekend, grossing $82.5 million, bringing it's 6-day opening total to $175.3 million. But guess how much New Moon grossed during its first 6 days last November? $179 million.
If Eclipse was so much better than New Moon, why did it make $4 million less during its opening week? It's being said that New Moon had a better opening weekend simply because it opened on a Friday, unlike Eclipse, which opened on a Wednesday.

But Summit Entertainment doesn't seem too worried because Eclipse as already been breaking some records. The movie had the biggest midnight gross ever on opening night, the biggest Wednesday ever, and the widest release ever. Plus, some are saying it's still set to surpass New Moon in overall grosses.
