Everyone's Cookoo For Coco Chanel
The original arbiter of chic.
What is elegance? Chanel No. 5, camellias, the classic LBD, the perfectly cut suit, a quilted purse. What do all these things have in common? One word: Chanel.
The iconic fashion house has been in the news a lot lately, and it's not all because of the Karl Lagerfeld Teddy Bear. Movies, books, and even a mobile museum are paying homage to the woman who started it all, Coco Chanel.
French actress Audrey Tautou is set to star in a biopic about the designer titled, Coco Avant Chanel, where she will be playing the title character. All costumes and accessories will of course be overseen by Karl Lagerfeld, the current character behind the brand.
Also in the works is a made-for-TV movie being shown on Lifetime starring Shirley MacLaine (Wha? Who cast that?) examining Coco's life in a manner that is "freely inspired by the truth" (code for more fiction than fact). We're feeling the Audrey Tautou version.
And one more. Douglas Kirkland, a photographer who spent a lot of time with the designer, is publishing a book with many never-before-seen photos titled, Coco Chanel: Three Weeks 1962, giving an exclusive glimpse into her Paris workshop.
So grab your $1500 Karl teddy, slip on some ballet flats, and get ready to channel Audrey Hepburn. It's Chanel time!
