Exploring the Semi Long-Distance Relationship
From Our Friends at College Candy
Have you tried a semi long-distance relationship? College Candy explores the benefits of having your guy a little farther away than you might think is comfortable, to avoid awkward run-ins and allow for more personal space to be had. Win-win, in my book! What about you?
We're using "long distance" liberally: across campus or the next campus over, max, not across town. If you've had trouble dragging yourself to a far-off dorm or apartment because it's too much of a hike or he's just not worth it, you might want to think again--the semi long-distance does have its advantages. CC weighs in.
Do you want your own space? If you do, then the semi LDR is better than a "neighbor" thing. You can come home from the gym knowing that your guy won't see you with butt sweat, and you can make emergency pit stops at the pharmacy without your guy swinging by and asking "whatcha buying?" (Immodium, shut up!)
This also works well for those of us out of college: if your guy lives too close, you can't avoid him when you want to. Let's say you want to stay in, and you break your date, and then decide to pick up take-out for yourself. On your way out, he sees you and thinks you lied. Cue the fight; true story.
Do you want to save money? The semi LDR might be the way to go. You don't have to spend time and cash (gas money, taxi cash) commuting to another city or borough, but you still have enough independence that you can do your own thing during the day.
Do you want convenience? This is probably the trickiest questions of all when it comes to the semi-LDR. If you want to be able to jog there in five minutes, then the semi LDR isn't for you. If you just came out of a real long-distance relationship, then it's all relative. Weigh your convenience requirements with the above two.
