Finger Waves - Dig the Look?
Lately, I've been noticing a plethora of celeb hair that reminds me of the roaring 20s. And, while I can't exactly pull from experience (Although, I would've loved to be a guest at one of Gatsby's parties.), I can appreciate a fine styling.
How better to celebrate a wonderful time full of bootlegging, jalopies, drugstore cowboys and petting parties, than to recreate an old classic - the finger wave!
.
The finger wave, though it looks rather intense, is actually quite simple. And best of all, nowadays we have helpful tools like triple barrel curling irons that make hairstyling way less arduous.
To recreate your very own 2009 finger-wave, follow these steps:
1. Apply styling lotion to just washed damp hair. (I like Bumble and Bumble's.)
2. Blow-dry hair in a downward motion until bone dry. (Dampish hair will not hold curl.)
3. Next brush out any tangles or snarls.
4. Separate hair into two sections (horizontally) and pin top hair up and out of the way.
5. Take the remaining hair underneath and separate into two sections (vertically, think pigtails.)
6. Then, take a hot triple barrel curling iron (like the one seen here), and clamp down on the hair as if you were using a waver. Start from the scalp and work your way down. Do this for both sections.
7. Next, unpin the hair at your crown, separate into two sections (vertically) like before, and continue curling with the iron as before.
8. Once your entire head is curled, spray with hair spray (I recommend Bumble and Bumble's Spray de Mode), and get ready to Charleston!
