Get Zoe Saldana's Bouncy, Beautiful Curls
Shiny, Perfect Holiday Hair
I'm at a loss when it comes to holiday hairstyles. Do I go big? Do I tone things down with a sleek effect because I always go big? Do I just give up and put my hair in a ballerina bun? Zoe Saldana reinvigorated me, inspiring me to grab my hot rollers and go for a piecey, curly look.
What I love about Zoe's hair (pictured) is that it has some edge. This is no boring curly 'do-- it's a half-wave, half-curl combination that looks particularly stunning when paired with slouchy knits and other textured holiday garments.
For a causal, relaxed look like Zoe's, I'm aiming for bendable hot rollers, which all allow us to achieve that chunky and piecey wavy look. If you're in a rush, you may want to consider hot sticks, which are equally as useful and require only 2 minutes for maximum heat-up.
For the look, you'll need to start off with dry hair-- it just works better when you're using hot rollers. Spritz a tiny bit of hairspray on your hair to get the waves to "stick." I've been using Redken's Smooth Down to protect my hair as well, starting from the bottom of my hair and working my way up.
For a more casual look like this, I wouldn't bother sectioning my hair first. Taking sizable sections of hair, simply wrap your locks around the center of the curler and then "pinch" the ends up towards each other to create a bendable hot roller twist that stays in place. If your hair is particularly thick, you may want to stick to sectioning it first, to avoid "chunks" uncurled.
After leaving your curlers in for 15-20 minutes, remove the rollers. You'll notice that your hair has defined, but definitely irregular and fun, curls. This is an easy solution for a relaxed look, and now all you need is a finishing spray! Feel free to run your fingers through or toss your head around prior to the finishing part.
