Less glitz; more glamour

While I'm always excited to see who wins what at the Golden Globes, I'm usually even more excited for the always glamorous fashion. And last night's red carpet didn't disappoint. The dresses were more subdued with a whole lot less glitz than I expected, but there were so many classy looks to swoon after.

There were several trends that were easily noticed during last night's Golden Globe Awards. The biggest ones that caught my eye? Lots of nude dresses and a plethora of emerald green dresses. There was also a whole lot less glitter than I expected; and I'm hoping that doesn't mean the sparkle trend is over quite yet!

The best looks of the evening? I was drooling over Lea Michele subdued pink Oscar de la Renta because it was anything but boring with its ruffles and layers. I was also pleasantly surprised by Eva Longoria's black Zac Posen dress. Girl is totally showing the world she doesn't need Tony Parker in her life! I wasn't obsessed with Natalie Portman's pale pink Viktor and Rolf dress, but it looked amazing on her and I loved that it showed off her baby bump a bit.

Back to the nude, I really loved Sandra Bullock's Jenny Packham dress that did involve a little sparkle, too. She was also rocking bangs and while some argued she was looking "haggard," I thought she was simply subdued and glamorous.

I'm not a big fan of emerald green evening gowns unless they're for the holidays, but a number of ladies were wearing them last night, including Angelina Jolie in a Versace and Catherine Zeta Jones in Monique Lhuillier. Mila Kunis also got green in a Vera Wang. I wish these three had stood next to each other for a photo shoot! Emerald green may not be my favorite color, but all three ladies looked stunning.

Luckily for me, a couple of the ladies did bring the sparkle and one of my favorites was Olivia Wilde who wore a glittery black Marchesa dress. The dress was big and poufy, but the best part might have been what was underneath. Olivia showed off a pair of gold Christian Louboutin heels. But she joked that she was hiding both Justin Bieber and Robert Pattinson under her dress. She wishes! Carrie Underwood also looked beautiful in her sparkly nude Badgley Mischka.

Who do you think was the best dressed of the evening? While I don't like to focus on the negative, I definitely think Leighton Meester, Scarlett Johansson, and Helena Bonham Carter made the worst-dressed list.

I do like Ricky Gervais, and yes, I have a sense of humor. But award shows like the Golden Globes should be fun. Humor about the moves and actor is all in good fun, but there is a line. Last night, universal opinion was that it crossed it. It turned from a humorous host, into a mean-spirited roast at many of the actors expense. Not what the audience and fans want to see. Tim Allen is I am sure, proud of his work, as is Sylvester Stallone and those involved in the Tourist. Much of it was shock and awe, and simply was not funny. Next year, please look for another host. It Ricky wants to do a celebrity roast as party of his own HBO stand up show great. But the award shows should be about honoring the work and light hearted fun. Let's get another host in 2012 and leave Ricky and his mean-heasrtedness at home. One fans opinion, but many others I spoke to feel the same way. - Jeff

Took in the Golden Globes 2011 on TV and was surprised that the host Rick Gervais made some rude remarks about the President of Golden Globes Philip Berk. He (Gervais) might have been intoxicated and it was quite an embarassing remark. Kind regards, Anthony Joseph Lucchese
