A Google Doodle, our nation's highest honor.

Norman Rockwell, one of the most famous American painters in the 20th century, is being recognized by the busiest place on Earth: the Google homepage. Today's Google Doodle honors Rockwell on his birthday. He would have been 115.

Rockwell was famous for painting American in their everyday lives. His small-town scenes and idyllic portraits graced the cover of the popular Saturday Evening Post for 50 years, and many are still reproduced for posters.

Criticized in his day as more of an illustrator than a painter, Rockwell has now become the creator of some of the most iconic images from the middle of the 20th century. Many believe there is no other artist who was capable of portraying such a feeling of nostalgia or "the good ol' days" as Rockwell.

So in honor of his birthday, read up on the famous American painter and look through some of his best-known images over at NormanRockwell.com.
