Google May Offer Pay-Per-View Movies on YouTube
YouTube gets even more distracting.
Google is your go-to source for information, and now it's ready to be your home theater as well. The search giant is reportedly in talks with major Hollywood studios to bring you pay-per-view movies streaming on YouTube.

According to a report in Financial Times, Google is currently in talks to bring viewers streaming video of new film releases on YouTube by the end of the year. The Times reports that negotiations have actually been going on for several months but have "taken on greater urgency in recent weeks."
The new service would reportedly cost $5 per title, and is part of Google's expansion into streaming television shows and films. It announced Google TV earlier this year, which would consist of software that allows people to browse the internet on their TVs.

The new service would be in direct competition with sites like Netflix, Hulu and iTunes, not to mention another nail in the coffin for video stores like Blockbuster.
This is potentially great news for Hollywood as well, as most major film studios are battling piracy and looking for a way to profit from offering their content online.
Google's competitors, of course, are keeping step. Netflix just announced iPhone apps earlier this week, and Apple is expected to announce iTV soon, which would allow users to rent TV shows for just 99 cents.
