Google's Nexus One Takes on the iPhone
The next generation of mobile phone.
The world didn't have to wait long for 2010's biggest news in technology: today Google will announce the release of a new mobile phone, the Nexus One, that will be in direct competition with Apple's iPhone. And the tech geeks are all atwitter.
The world will feast its eyes and ears on Google's foray into the world of mobile phones, as the internet search behemoth unveils its highly-anticipated Nexus One at a press conference in Mountain View, CA, later today.
Leaked information about the phone has suggested it will have a hefty price of over $500 and will incorporate Google's Android operating system.
The phone will also have a 3.7-inch touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi connectivity, an accelerometer and a compass, according to Wired Magazine.
However, the biggest news in all the hullabaloo may not be the phone, but Google itself. The Nexus One would mark the company's entrance into the mobile phone market, rather than just supplying software to a more established phone company (as it did with Motorola's Droid). In other words, look out Apple.
