A 15 year-old boy in New South Wales, Australia, collapsed and suffered a seizure while watching graphic gore scenes in the new film, raising concerns that the Australian film board rated the film too leniently.
Due to violence and intense depictions of gore, Prometheus was rated R in the United States. In Australia the film was given a rating of M15, meaning anyone under 15 must be accompanied by an adult, but that was changed to just M following intense lobbying from Fox Studios.
Prometheus stars Rapace, Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender as space explorers who happen upon mysterious clues left behind by an alien race. Soon, however, the crew's curiosity gives way to terror as a horrifying creature rips through them one by one.
In the controversial scene that hospitalized the boy, Rapace's character is forced to perform a grisly self-surgery. Despite having the scare of his life, the young man is reportedly in stable condition.
