Groundhog Day - Dark Days Still Upon Us
The marmot has spoken!
The best thing about Groundhog Day is Bill Murray. Way funnier than the actual groundhog, who is famous for doing about two minutes of work annually. How can we get hooked up with that kind of gig?
This morning, Punxsutawney Phil emerged from wherever he holes up the rest of the year to make his seasonal prediction. Fuzzy Phil saw his shadow, predicting six more weeks of winter.
Phil’s prediction was read by Mike Johnson, vice president of the town’s Inner Circle, from a scroll that said: “The bright sky above me shows my shadow before me, and six more weeks of winter it will be.”
We hope Mike said that in a deep baritone.
Phil's prediction was confirmed by our neighbors to the north. Nova Scotia's Shubnedacadie Sam also saw his shadow.
But don't be too taken in by this show of North American unity. According to the U.S. National Climate Prediction Center, Phil and other U.S. and Canadian groundhogs get it right about 39% of the time.
Let's hope the woodchucks are wrong. In These Economic Times, we need some brightness and lightness right quick!
