Are you still watching The Hills? I used to love that show, but I think my opinion is popular sentiment: Lauren Conrad being gone ruined the show! When I watch The Hills now, I literally marvel over how blah the dialogue has gotten...and how Kristin Cavallari just might be Lauren Conrad's TV sloppy seconds after all.
Who would've thought that Lauren would be as integral to the show as her departure proves? Instead of watching cool fashion-y stuff, we're getting twenty minutes of co-dependent, faux independent boy drama a week--with Justin-Bobby, no less. I never would have imagined the show unfolding like this a season or two back.
Do you still watch The Hills? If you do, what has kept you watching? Since Kristin Cavallari does nothing for me, I mostly use the show as a jumping-off point for The Cut's hilarious recaps, which are what I use to return to sanity after watching a Hills episode.
Since my current "frenemy" style relationship with The Hills has me wondering what went wrong, I actually ran through a mini-list of the things that have changed dramatically from the last season to now. These could be just a few of the reasons why ratings are free-falling:
*It's rare that we see inside the house of one of characters long enough to make the show seem real. Kristin's ridiculous beach rental so doesn't count, and Audrina's house has always seemed cold. Don't you miss the good ol' days of Lauren and Heidi's first place, or Lo, Lauren, and Audrina's house?
*Lauren's gone, obvs. Enough said.
*Justin-Bobby is spreading his d-bagginess all over the rest of the show. We have to look at him a lot more, listen to things that he says that aren't cool but he thinks are cool, and generally just spend more time watching him mess with the minds of women.
*Fashion has been completed dumped as a topic, and we don't see inside the offices of Audrina and Heidi's "work" anymore. Because they don't.
*Brody's been getting more and more camera time, and the Jayde drama has continued to escalate. Who takes Brody Jenner seriously?!
I could keep writing, but I think you're getting some ideas of your own on why people aren't watching The Hills. Are you tuning in?
