All the web was abuzz earlier this week when photos of Miley Cyrus shooting a scene for the Sex and the City sequel surfaced. The photos feature her on the red carpet in a fabulous gold dress with Kim Cattrall. Some claim she's too young to be featured in a movie with such mature themes but I see no problem with it. It's just a brief cameo. I'm guessing it's part of her ongoing plan to shed her Disney persona. I can't think of a more fun way to do it!
I was sad to hear Renee Zellweger told a reporter that the Bridget Jones 3 movie rumors were just that-rumors. The actress said she knew nothing about a third movie and hadn't been approached. I don't know about you, but I was getting excited for another installment of this funny character (and another 2 hours of watching Colin Firth be super cute.)
The TV world also had some interesting casting news this week. First, actress Andie MacDowell is back with a role in two new TV films, At Risk and The Front, based on the best-selling novels penned by Patricia Cornwell. In the films, MacDowell plays a district attorney with a penchant for younger men. Oh, did I mention the role requires her to go nude for a scene or two? High five for baring it all at age 51!
TMZ reported on Wednesday that David Hasselhoff is close to signing on for a reality show on A&E. The show would follow the lives of Hasselhoff and his two teenage daughters. Is this weird? Or just plain creepy? This is a show I'll definitely skip.
Also in the running for the weirdest casting news of the week is Wilmer Valderrama's new role on a sitcom based on the life of Dog Whisperer, Cesar Millan. Did you get all that? Fez will be playing a dog whisperer on a sitcom based on a real dog whisperer. Apparently the real dog whisperer's life is filled with so many funny exploits that a sitcom was in order. And apparently Wilmer felt this was a good role for him. And apparently, I seem to think the whole thing is so odd that I keep using the word apparently.
My final casting news is a bit of a shocker: Ashlee Simpson-Wentz has been let go from Melrose Place. Yep, the actress/singer will no longer be appearing on the TV drama. The timing isn't great for Ashlee since ratings are SURE to go up once Heather Locklear's episodes start airing. I've not seen the show but I've heard that Ashlee was actually bearable to watch. I'm pretty surprised she's been let go.
Hollywood Snippets
- Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel revealed this week that she is engaged! Soon after, she also shared the news that she is pregnant. Perez Hilton broke the news first, forcing the reality star to confirm the news earlier than she would have liked. I don't blame her for being annoyed. Guess that's part of the deal when you're famous, though.
- Elizabeth Hasselbeck returned to her co-hosting duties on The View this week following the birth of her third child, Isaiah, born in August. On her first day back she talked about balloon boy, Obama, and a picture of her new son she texted to her family that accidentally included her breast. Oopsies!
- Stephanie Pratt, The Hills star and sister of publicity nightmare Spencer Pratt, was arrested early Sunday for the suspicious of driving under the influence. She had just left a part celebrating her sister-in-law's birthday.
- Rihanna unveiled her new song, Russian Roulette, on Tuesday. I predict it'll only take 3 weeks until we're all sick of hearing it on the radio 5 times an hour. (But it's a pretty good tune, I'll admit.)
- Former Office star Amy Ryan gave birth to her first child, a little girl named Georgia, last week. Congrats! (And hurry up and get back to The Office. Michael Scott needs you!)
