Ann Curry Fired, Being Replaced as Today Show Co-host
Is Ann Curry leaving the Today show?
Rumors swirled yesterday when the New York Times' Media Decoder blog spilled that NBC execs were planning to fire Curry.
Curry joined Matt Lauer as co-host last year, filling the vacancy left by Meredith Vieira.
There's been no further confirmation about the buzz, though reports that Curry would be canned as a move to increase ratings continue to spread.
Who will replace Curry as Lauer's co-host? Some point to Savannah Guthrie, who hosts Today's 9 a.m. hour, or Natalie Morales, who is the news anchor for Today, to take over for Curry.
Discussions are said to be underway with Curry, with execs reportedly planning to replace her before the Summer Olympics coverage begins in July.
It's also unclear that if Curry leaves her Today co-host post, she'll be employed in another capacity by NBC. There are some rumblings of her taking a foreign correspondent role.
One thing is certain for now -- Curry is carrying on "business as usual," reporting to work at the Today show this morning and tweeting: "Good morning twitterverse," her first presence on Twitter in a couple of days.
No mention of the media reports was made on air, as she and Lauer carried on as usual.
Many are blaming Lauer for the reported move to ditch Curry, while others note that she's never had the charisma to pull off the gig (her interviewing skills are sometimes lacking, to put it nicely).
Still others are Team Ann, so there's likely to be some upset Today show viewers if Ann is replaced.
I miss Meredith. Sigh.
