Is Eclipse Going Goth With Peter Murphy Cameo?

Eclipse gets goth and more grown up!

You might not even know who Peter Murphy is. We didn't really until we looked him up. But lots of people are wondering if a cameo from Peter Murphy means Eclipse is going a bit more goth than the other Twilight movies.

One thing is for sure: Billy Burke who plays Bella's dad, Charlie Swan, was more than excited that Peter Murphy was going to make an appearance in the third Twilight movie, Eclipse. Apparently, Murphy used to be the lead singer of Bauhaus, the group that pioneered the the goth rock music genre from 1978-1983. So, we're guessing most Twilight fans haven't even heard of Peter Murphy before.

Peter Murphy is sometimes known as the "Godfather of Goth" and would rise from coffins on-stage and drive around in a hearse. And according to Billy Burke, he's playing a vampire in Eclipse. Burke says, "He plays a vampire in a flashback sequence... I didn't get to see any of it, but all reports from the director David Slade, and everyone around say he just kicked ass. I'm real excited to see it."

Billy says that Kristen Stewart is also a Peter Murphy fan and for some reason we're not surprised. But it's really easy to see what a huge fan of Murphy Peter is. He says, "I was gone that particular day. But we did end up going and hanging out, and had some dinner and drinks; he was so open to talk about everything — the glory days of Bauhaus and his present career. He was just an awesome guy."

We're wondering if Peter Murphy is Eclipse director David Slade's way of telling us things are going to get a lot darker and more gothic when it comes to Eclipse. We don't even know Peter Murphy and we're kind of scared already! Slade could also be trying to grab a more adult audience who isn't drawn to Twilight to see teen heartthrobs and cute vampires. We think it could work!
