Is Kim Kardashian Getting Paid for Twitter?
Kim's big Twitter pay day
We love seeing celebrities on Twitter because it gives us a little look into their private lives. But did you know that some celebrities actually get paid to tweet away? And we just found out Kim Kardashian may be one of those Twitter-ers. Now, can we believe anything she tells us on Twitter?
Twitter once seemed to be an honest place filled with people simply expressing their opinions. But as could be expected, business has taken over and it's turning into a place of money-making and spam. I'm a fan of Kim Kardashian, but also realize that she's one of those people who's famous for nothing. And she needs to pay her bills. So, now she's getting money from companies to send out tweets.
Kim's not the only one using Twitter for money, but it seems that she leads the pack in the amount of money being made. According to reports, Kim Kardashian makes up to $10,000 per tweet for mentioning an advertiser's product to her 2.7 million followers. Do you know how long it takes to send out a tweet? About 5 seconds. Not a bad pay-rate for Kim Kardashian if you ask me.
But does knowing that Kim is getting paid to tweet, affect how much you trust what she's saying on Twitter? A few days ago, Kim sent out a tweet saying, "Where is there a Carl's Jr in the valley? I'm seriously craving that salad!" We've all seen Kim in the recent Carl's Jr advertisements. Are we supposed to believe she really does love the salads? Or is she getting paid extra to tweet about them? Now we're starting to question everything she tweets, like the other day's, "Heading 2 the gym! Got my @Reebok EasyTones on! LOVE THESE! Go get 'em..." with a link to a website you can purchase the Reeboks on and a photo of Kim in the EasyTones.
Would you tweet for money if it was offered to you? I can imagine it must be hard to turn down $10,000, but I could never promote a product I didn't fully believe in in my personal life, no matter how much I was getting paid. And it's causing me to wonder if the new FTC blogging rules forcing full disclosure on payment and free products will carry over to Twitter as well.
