Is the Workplace Unkind to Child-Free Women?
Women Sans Kids Are Treated Unfairly, Hints Study
The Daily Mail reported that a study conducted over six years hints that the tides are turning: childless women in the workplace may be "regarded as cold and odd." Could it be true?
The story, brought to us by Carol Sarler, an admittedly "very outspoken mother" and ex-boss, comments that "single-track careerists who are increasingly likely to be vilified, refused jobs and denied promotion because many employers believe them to lack what the study calls 'an essential humanity.'"
That's not all: Sarler agrees with the employers who look down on those without kids, finishing up her commentary on childless women in the workplace by giving "three cheers" to employers who "don't want to people their workforces with the cold, the calculating, the sad and the mad."
Erm, it sounds like this is a major "discuss" moment: do Sarler's words rub you the wrong way, or do you agree with her?
