A pilgrimage to Israel by Naomi Watts, 40, has led to speculation she is converting to Judaism. In Israel with her partner of four years, Liev Schreiber, and their two sons, Watts was reported to have travelled to the northern region of Galilee to plant a pistachio sapling.

The trip has fuelled speculation in Australia that the couple may be thinking of getting hitched, with a religious conversion as a lead-up. The pair have been photographed in safari-style hats with one-year-old Alexander "Sasha" Pete and seven-month-old Samuel Kai in Israel. They reportedly also toured the Western Wall, a.k.a the Wailing Wall, regarded in Judaism as the sole remnant of the Holy Temple. But the pair may only have been trying to raise environmental awareness. One report says they planted the tree for the Jewish National Fund. It was set up to bring life to the Negev Desert and to educate students about Israel. Schreiber was reported saying: "This particular area is called Galilee. And in this area, approximately 750,000 trees were destroyed in missile attacks. So what we are doing here today is called Project Renewal."
