Italian Vogue Hires Only Black Models
Record-breaking all-black issue sparks a double-take.
Naomi Campbell is making headlines again, but not in the way you might expect. The controversial supermodel--along with fellow cover girls Liya Kebede, Sessilee Lopez, and Jourdan Dunn--is stirring up some discussion about what, and who, sells magazines. The four beauties are featured in the new Italian Vogue, the hot-hot issue that's flying off shelves so fast a reprint had to be ordered.
The "all black issue," so-called because of its use of only black models, is challenging long-held preconceptions about diversity in the fashion world.
It's rare enough to have a magazine sell out, let alone a magazine featuring black models (often alleged to be less profitable). The Italians might just change how high-fashion gets done here in the U.S. of A.
