James Hewitt, Princess Diana's Lover, Not Prince Harry's Father
Hewitt insists he's not Prince Harry's father.
While the royal family are celebrating excitement over the impending wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton, there's a man who's dealing with a very dark cloud. Princess Diana's lover of five years, James Hewitt, is speaking out for the first time in ages to state that he's not Prince Harry's father; and the chatter about it almost caused him to take his life.
With his ruddy complexion and ginger hair, James Hewitt does bear some resemblance to Princess Diana's second son, Prince Harry. Hewitt insists, however, that despite the decades-long rumors that have orbited, there's no chance he's Prince Harry's father. "No I am not [Harry's real father]," Hewitt has told reporters. "I am not happy talking about it ... It's out of respect for everyone."

James Hewitt left England five years ago because he was tired of being hounded by the press over his five-year affair with Princess Diana, after Diana admitted to the adultery in a 1995 interview. In 2002 James Hewitt made an explicit statment to insist that his relationship with Princess Diana didn't start until well after Prince Harry's 1984 birth.
Hewitt now reveals that at one point, he was so downtrodden about the media involvement in his life that he nearly killed himself. "I got in my car and loaded a few things up to get on the ferry to go to France -- to shoot myself," Hewitt told "Inside Edition." He continued, revealing why he's still alive today: "And then my mother insisted on coming with me. And, had she hadn't, I would have probably have shot myself. So I owe [my mother] my life, really."
