Jay Leno's Last Tonight Show
Jay's gone but not for long
Tonight is Jay Leno's last night on the Tonight Show, but nobody's quite as sad as you would expect them to be. That's because Leno isn't going very far.
After a 17-year run as the host of the popular Tonight Show, Jay Leno is stepping down to make way for Conan O'Brien. And while this will be a change, not many people are getting to teary-eyed about it. Instead of retiring all together, Leno will be hosting a new show on NBC during primetime at 10 p.m.
There has never been a talk show during primetime 5 nights a week on a major network, so we wonder how successful Jay Leno is going to be. Jay says he's excited, but that "The real trick to show business is try not to get too excited; try not to get to depressed." And he has a simple method for making the new show work: "We just try to keep the jokes coming fast and furious and that's what people like."
Jay's taking a little break after his stint on the Tonight Show and his new show will be starting in the fall. Conan will take over the Tonight Show starting on Monday. So, what's in store for Jay's last show tonight? Jay says, "It's something really personal and really unusual. And I think - well, it seems unusual but it's just really different and it has to do with our show and our staff and I think it'll make people smile." If it's anything like Johnny Carson's last show, before Jay Leno took over The Tonight Show from him, it will be a classic.
We can't wait to see what will happen and how Jay's new show does in the fall.
