Jeff Bridges: Golden Globe Best Actor for 'Crazy Heart'
Bad Blake rides again.
Actor Jeff Bridges is considered by many to be the most underrated actor of his generation. But now, finally, "The Dude" is getting the recognition he deserves. At the Golden Globe Awards last night, Bridges won the award for best actor for his performance in Crazy Heart.
In the film, Bridges plays Bad Blake, a has-been country music star who is on a downward spiral of booze and dingy motel rooms. He earns a living playing gigs at small-town bars across the country, never with a home or a family to return to. Then, when a journalist (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal) comes looking for a story, Blake begins to find his music and career revived.
Critics have been hailing Bridges performance as Blake since the day Crazy Heart opened, and now with a Golden Globe Award in his pocket, Bridges is the front-runner for the Academy Awards.
Kyle Smith of the New York Post calls Crazy Heart "one of the year’s best, most deeply felt films." Roger Ebert calls Jeff Bridges' performance "blessed," while RexReed of the New York Observer describes it as "merely miraculous."
.
Aside from his newly-minted Golden Globe award, Bridges' performance has also won him best actor awards from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
Personally, I think he should have won every award for his turn as "The Dude" in the classic Coen brothers movie The Big Lebowski.
