Katy Perry, Beyonce Own MTV Europe Music Awards (Video)
Katy Perry hosted; Beyonce cleaned house.
While there was some controversy surrounding the MTV Europe Music Awards being held in Berlin to commemorate the collapse of the Berlin Wall, nobody was arguing about this: American artists ruled the ceremonies.
Katy Perry was the celebrated host of the awards, a fan favorite in Europe with especially strong presence in the U.K. now that she's dating English comedian Russell Brand. Perry got the crowd jacked by opening with a steamy cabaret medley of all the numbers up for Best Song (among them, Beyonce's "Halo," Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" and Lady GaGa's "Poker Face).
Beyonce swept the floor with three awards: Best Female, Best Song and Best Video for "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)." She also closed the show with a gorgeous performance of her new single "Sweet Dreams." Hubby Jay-Z took home the award for Best Urban.
Lady GaGa was up for five awards (the most nominations for any artist last night), winning Best New Act.
Catch Katy Perry and Beyonce here (and notice how much racier Europe's version of the event is than the American!).
