Lady Gaga Debuts On Forbes Celebrity Power List
Women rule Forbes list of richest celebrities.
An interesting development in Lady Gaga's career: she's landed on the Forbes list of the 100 most powerful (read: richest) celebrities in the world. Gaga joins the ranks of female mega-stars like Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce and Angelina Jolie as women grow more present among the world's influential elite.
ABC.com reports that Forbes selected their list based on "entertainment-related earnings over the past 12 months as well as exposure in print, television, radio, online, and social media."
Oprah Winfrey tops the list with a reported earning of $315 million in 2009. Winfrey reclaimed the #1 spot on the Forbes list from Angelina Jolie, who now ranks #18. Beyonce falls right behind Oprah into the #2 spot with a 2009 income of $87 million.
Lady Gaga is one of the most notables on the Forbes list, however. Gaga arrives on the list just over a year after making her international debut as an entertainer. She comes in at #4 with a reported $62 million in 2009.
Avatar director James Cameron beat Lady Gaga out at the #3 spot with a reported $210 million income in '09. Tiger Woods came in behind Gaga at #5 (gutsy move, Forbes -- Woods' 2009 earning are reportedly $105 million) and Forbes justifies their decision on Tiger with this: "He managed to earn $105 million during the past year, even as his revenue streams have diminished and his golf course design business struggles in the global economy."
Despite the 2009 economy, Forbes says celebrities' earnings were "remarkably resilient, with this year's stars having earned a collective $4.7 billion during the past year, up from $4.1 billion in 2009." Click here to view the full Forbes Celebrity 100 list!
