Lady Gaga Establishes The 'Born This Way Foundation' To Empower Youth

Gaga Continues To Be An Inspiration In Fight Against Bullying

Mother Monster has always made it her mission to empower her offspring.  Now however, Lady Gaga is stepping up her battle against bullying, announcing the creation of the Born This Way Foundation.

According to a statement on Gaga's website, the project, named after her second album and its title track, “will focus on youth empowerment and equality by addressing issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development."

The foundation will be directed by Gaga herself, as well as her mother Cynthia Germanotta. Other partners to work alongside the cause will include the John D. & Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the California Endowment and the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University.

News of the Born This Way Foundation comes hot on the heels of Gaga's vow to end bullying, following the suicide of one of her Little Monsters, Jamey Rodemeyer. After enduring years of torment over his sexuality, the 14-year-old was found dead outside of his parents' home in Buffalo, New York, in September this year. The You And I singer was so touched by Rodemeyer's story that she met with President Obama and tried to enact laws making bullying a hate crime.

"Together we hope to establish a standard of bravery and kindness, as well as a community worldwide that protects and nurtures others in the face of bullying and abandonment," Lady Gaga said of her new foundation.

An advisory board and more details about the organization will be announced soon; however, we are being told that there will be a digital aspect to the foundation, which should really come as no surprise considering Gaga’s massive 15 million-strong Twitter following.

Whether you love or hate Gaga's music, you have to appreciate her philanthropy. To her fans, Gaga is more than just a singer who wears mermaid tails and meat dresses -- she promotes a message of self-love and acceptance across the world (with the exception of China).
