Lady Gaga Tests "Borderline Positive" for Lupus
That's scary!
Lady Gaga admitted on Larry King Live that she is having some health problems after all: she tested "borderline positive" for lupus, she said on the show. It sounds like collapsing on stage was the least of her worries, wouldn't you agree?
Lady Gaga has had to evaluate her health and her daily routine after her most recent doctor visit.
"I have tested borderline positive for [lupus]," Lady Gaga said.
"As of right now," she says, "I do not have it, but I have to take good care of myself."
While she says that she's "okay" and is just doing her best to stay aware of her health, it's an awfully complex situation. Lady Gaga might have lupus in her family, but isn't she well-known for working herself to the bone and collapsing on stage?
Lady Gaga wanted to make sure that her fans knew she wasn't in trouble, but she does have a long string of summer concerts set up. Is it really enough to simply tell your fans that everything's all right because you don't have symptoms "yet"? That sounds morbid and inaccurate, since there's little chance that Lady Gaga will cancel some of her shows for preventative measures.
For anyone who's not familiar with lupus, it's a disease that can cause some some serious problems or even kill you (Lady Gaga's aunt died from lupus). There are four major types of lupus, and the most common type is Systemic lupus erythematosus, which occurs when the body's immune system attacks tissue and cells. Early symptoms include joint pain, fatigue, fever, and you can read more about it at the Lupus Foundation.
I want to know more about this "borderline" reading of Lady Gaga's... it sounds murky. Even though a lot of critics are analyzing the "borderline" comment, I'm genuinely curious.
