Alexandra Halle-who-ya?

After all these years, Leonard Cohen is still in demand. His classic song "Hallelujah" set a record on the British music charts by becoming both #1 and #2, each slot belonging to a different version.

The top spot is a throaty, diva rendition by X Factor ("British Idol") winner Alexandra Burke. She and her epic background orchestra "updated" the song, and the the juggernaut hymnal became the fastest-selling single by a female artist. Ever.

Second was the late Jeff Buckley, whose version from over a decade ago is still hailed as the best, especially by the multitude of fans who tried to kick it past Burke's.

Whichever one you like better, you can't deny the power of the Cohen. "Hallelujah's" success, no matter which form it takes, should be attributed to his talent as a songwriter, not the fancy effects behind it. But our favorite is still the Rammstein version, so what do we know?
