Biography

Cameron Michelle Diaz was born on August 30, 1972 in San Diego, California to Emilio and Billie Diaz. She has one sibling, older sister Chimene Diaz. Her father was Cuban American and her mother is of English, German, and Cherokee descent.

Diaz began her career as a fashion model-she wasn't always going to be an actress. At the age of 16, she was discovered by a photographer at a party and signed with modeling agency Elite Model Management shortly thereafter. Immediately following high school graduation, Diaz began modeling internationally including spending some time in Japan. It was there that she met her first boyfriend, Carlos de la Torre, while shooting as ad for L.A. Gear. She dated him for several years, even moving in with him when they both returned to the States. While modeling, she was featured in advertising campaigns for Calvin Klein, Coca-Cola, Nivea, and Levi's. She also appeared on the cover of Seventeen Magazine in July 1990.

Diaz tried her luck at acting when she auditioned for the Jim Carrey movie, The Mask. Even with no previous acting credits, she landed the role. The film made over $340 million worldwide and the actress held her own opposite funnyman Jim Carrey.

After that first role, she continued to hone her acting skills by choosing smaller, independent films on which to work. She starred in 1995's The Last Supper with Bill Paxton, 1996's She's the One with Jennifer Aniston and Ed Burns, and 1996's Feeling Minnesota with Keanu Reeves. In 1996, Diaz met Matt Dillon and the two began to date.

Diaz's big breakthrough was in the 1997 flick My Best Friend's Wedding opposite Julia Roberts. She played the perky Kimberly Wallace who has captured the heart of the man Julia Roberts has decided she wants to marry. The romantic comedy was a big hit, making almost $300 million worldwide.

After roles in smaller films, A Life Less Ordinary and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Diaz made another big splash with her 1998 film, There's Something About Mary co-starring boyfriend-at-the-time Matt Dillon. This movie catapulted Diaz into the public eye and she's been landing lead roles ever since.

Over the next 4 years Diaz starred in a string of hit movies. She starred in Oliver Stone's 1999 football movie Any Given Sunday with Al Pacino, the 2000 flick Charlie's Angels with Drew Barrymore and Lucy Lui, the animated 2001 hit Shrek with Mike Meyers, and the 2001 film Vanilla Sky with Tom Cruise. She was nominated for a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for her role in Vanilla Sky. She also starred in the independent film Being John Malkovich with John Cusack and was nominated for several awards for her performance.

From 2002-2006, Diaz starred in big blockbusters and successful sequels. She also moved into the elite group of female actors making more than $10 million per flick. In 2002, she starred in The Sweetest Thing, and Martin Scorsese's film, Gangs of New York. In 2003, Diaz starred in the Charlie's Angels sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle for which she was paid $20 million. In 2004, she reprised her role as Princess Fiona in the Shrek sequel and in 2005 she filmed the drama, In Her Shoes opposite Toni Colette. In 2006, the romantic comedy The Holiday was released co-starring Kate Winslet and Jude Law.

In 2003, Diaz met singer Justin Timberlake at the Kids' Choice Awards. The two started dating quietly and remained an item for the next 4 years. They broke up in 2007.

The third movie in the Shrek series was released in 2007 and Diaz reprised her role a third time along with Eddie Murphy and Mike Myers. Then-beau Justin Timberlake joined her in the film, voicing the character Artie. In 2008, Diaz joined Ashton Kutcher in the romantic comedy What Happens in Vegas. And in 2009, she starred in the tearjerker My Sister's Keeper with Abigail Breslin.

Diaz's upcoming films include the 2009 thriller The Box, the fourth installment in the Shrek series, Shrek Forever After, the Green Hornet with Seth Rogen, and Wichita with Tom Cruise.

Although Diaz has been linked to several men over the past few years including model Paul Sculfor, she is currently not dating anyone.
