Paris Whitney Hilton was born in New York City, New York on February 17, 1981 to Richard and Kathy Hilton. She has three siblings: one sister, Nicky, and two brothers, Conrad and Barron. She is the great granddaughter of Hilton Hotels founder Conrad Hilton.
Hilton grew up alternating between different homes in Manhattan, Beverly Hills, and the Hamptons. She attended four high schools: Marywood-Palm Valley School, Convent of the Sacred Heart, Dwight School, and Canterbury Boarding School (until she was kicked out.) She eventually got her GED. Some of her childhood friends included fellow socialites Nicole Richie and Kim Kardashian.
Though Hilton is most known for being a socialite, she has worked in several industries. She's a singer, model, and actress, and has also launched several different businesses. She reportedly made over $7 million in 2006.
Hilton began her career in the public eye as a model. After doing some modeling as a child at charity events, she signed with T Management when she was 19. She also went on to work at Ford Models, Models 1 Agency, Premiere Model Management, and Nous Model Management. Once she made a name for herself as a socialite and a reality TV star, she was the face for several advertising campaigns over the years including GUESS, Tommy Hilfiger, Christian Dior, and Marciano.
Though she modeled and lived as a socialite for many years, Hilton became a household name after a sex tape featuring her and boyfriend Rick Saloman was leaked on the internet in early 2003. Though Hilton fought to block its release, she later settled and the video was released to DVD and called 1 Night in Paris.
Soon after the release of the tape, her 2003 reality TV show The Simple Life premiered. The show followed her and fellow socialite Nicole Richie as they experienced life in different places around the country. It ran three seasons on Fox and two on the E! Channel before it was canceled. She also guest-starred on episodes of The O.C., The George Lopez Show, Las Vegas, American Dreams, and Veronica Mars.
After making a splash on the small screen, she was cast in several movies including Wonderland with Val Kilmer, Raising Helen with Kate Hudson, House of Wax with Chad Michael Murray, and The Hottie and the Nottie. Her most well known role was in the 2005 thriller House of Wax with Elisha Cuthbert.
In 2004, Hilton started Heiress Records, a division of Warner Brother's Records. She released her first album Paris in 2006. The sales were low though the album did hit #6 on the Billboard charts and the lead single, Stars Are Blind, was a top 10 hit in 17 countries. She has since released two songs My BFF and Paris for President though she hasn't released a second album.
In late 2004, Hilton released her first book Confessions of an Heiress: A Tongue-in-Chic Peek Behind the Pose. A year later she released Your Heiress Diary: Confess It All to Me. Both were co-written by Merle Ginsberg.
Hilton has launched six successful fragrances for women: Paris Hilton, Just Me, Heiress, Fairy Dust, Can Can, and Siren. Siren was released in July 2009. In 2007, she also released DreamCatchers, a line of hair extensions. That same year she also launched a clothing line for the Los Angeles boutique Kitson.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Hilton is also known for her stint in the Los Angeles County Jail. In 2007, she violated probation and was sentenced to 45 days in jail. Her probation was for a DUI and other driving-related incidents. After an early release and then another sentencing, Paris ended up serving over 20 days. She was released on June 28, 2007.
Hilton has been engaged twice: to model Jason Shaw in 2002 and Greek shipping heir Paris Latsis in 2005. She's also had many high-profile relationships: Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden, another greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos III, and former Hills cast member Doug Reinhardt. She is still dating Reinhardt.
