Biography

Stephen John Emery (later changed to Stephen Moyer) was born in Brentwood, Essex, England on October 11, 1969. As a child and teen, Moyer attended St. Martin's School and graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He also was the lead singer of a band called The Prophecy.

After he graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Moyer began a five-year stint in theater. He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company for two years in addition to other prominent theater companies. He played Romeo in a traveling production of Romeo and Juliet and starred in Pete Townsend's rock opera The Iron Man.

After his time in theater, Moyer transitioned to British television. This included guest-starring roles on popular shows like Cold Feet, Midsomer Murders, and Waking the Dead. He also landed leading roles in British series BBC's The Grand, NY-LON in 2004, and Lilies in 2007.

While working in television, Moyer also landed movie roles. His first feature was the 1997 film Prince Valiant opposite Katherine Heigl. His next memorable role was in the 2000 film Quills co-starring Geoffrey Rush, Kate Winslet, and Michael Caine. In 2007, he was cast in the Al Pacino flick 88 Minutes as Guy LaForge.

Later in 2007, Moyer made a big splash with American audiences in the USA television series The Starter Wife opposite Debra Messing. He was in all 6 episodes of the series and played one of Messing's love interests.

But Moyer's role of a lifetime came when he was cast as 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton on the HBO series True Blood. Cast opposite Anna Paquin, that series follows the interaction between humans and vampires in a fictional town in Louisiana. The show has been a critical success and an audience favorite.

Moyer started appearing in the weekly tabloids once it was reported that he was dating his True Blood co-star Anna Paquin. They started dating in 2007 while filming the series pilot. The two got engaged in August 2009.
