Malia and Sasha Obama Are Dolls
And we mean that literally.
With all the celeb-struck hype around President Obama, it wasn't a surprise that people began fawning all over his adorable little girls, Malia and Sasha. They are cute, sassy, and always impeccably dressed (thanks to Momma). But when Ty (makers of the much-coveted Beanie Babies) released their tribute dolls of the little girls, we had no idea the run would cause hysteria.
We're not sure what's worse: creating dolls for/about the little girls (who have to live under a microscope already), or denying that they were the inspiration for the dolls.
.
When asked about the inspiration for the dolls, Ty Senior Vice President of Sales Tania Lundeen is claiming that, "Sasha and Malia are beautiful names that worked very well with the dolls we were making." and "There's really nothing on either doll that refers to anything else that you may have read in the media today."
.
Right. They were already making two little black dolls named identically for the incoming President's two daughters, and the release of the dolls coincided perfectly with the inauguration. Ty must have a crystal ball. In any case, the slightly creepy tribute dolls to the real cuties retail at $9.99.
But don't expect they'll last in stores for very long. Every product relating to this election is in short supply. Just ask Aretha's hat maker.
