Michael Douglas Shares How He Explains Cancer to His Kids

Sixty-five-year-old Michael Douglas has more than his own life to be concerned about now that he's been diagnosed with stage four throat cancer. The younger two of Douglas' three children are only seven and 10 years old, and the actor has bravely revealed how he and wife Catherine Zeta-Jones are walking the kids through Dad's cancer: the kids get to see it all.

Michael Douglas said in an interview that was published on Friday that his 10-year-old son Dylan and seven-year-old daughter Carys are totally privy to everything that's going on with Douglas' cancer: "The kids, yeah, they've been fine," he said. "I've taken them down to the hospital and shown them the whole radiology thing."

Douglas says his children have actually witnessed one of his first radiation treatments: "They've watched me actually get zapped." It's said that Michael Douglas and wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, 40, have been very "matter-of-fact" with the children since Douglas' diagnosis. The actors were especially concerned the children would have to face whispers from children.
When a reporter seemed to question Douglas' uber-honesty with his children regarding his illness, Douglas said, "I don't know what else you would do. It is what it is."
