Michael Douglas says chemo "really knocks you out."
We hate the C-word, but it seems we all know someone who's fighting cancer. Michael Douglas is sharing his experience on a publicity tour after his first week of chemotherapy and radiation to battle throat cancer. He's a fighter, Douglas says, but the treatment's seriously going to test him.

Michael Douglas appears on the new issue of "People," opening up about his experience being diagnosed and treated for stage four (advanced) throat cancer. "It's a fight," Douglas says, referring to the eight weeks of chemotherapy and radiation he's just kicked off at New York's Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to get rid of a tumor at the base of his tongue. "It really knocks you out."
Michael Douglas, a longtime smoker, revealed on Tuesday's "Late Night with David Letterman" that doctors say he has an 80 percent chance of recovery. Douglas insists that he's going to conquer his cancer, although he admits that it's another major challenge he's faced in 2010. It's been "a pretty intense year," Douglas says, referring to his son's five-year prison sentence after being found guilty on drug charges.
Meanwhile 65-year-old Michael Douglas' wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, is voicing up to reveal how Michael revealed to their two children, ages seven and 10, that he was sick: "Daddy sat them down and told them he has cancer now."
Zeta-Jones says Michael Douglas' journey has taken a toll on their whole family emotionally, after Douglas spent weeks suffering pain in his ear and throat -- says Catherine, "The hardest part is seeing his fatigue, because Michael is never tired." However, Zeta-Jones believes in her husband's ability to overcome his illness: "If there's anything Michael has, it's strength."
