Michelle Obama Honored by Fashion Designers
Fashionable First Lady
On Monday night, the Council of Fashion Designers of America honored First Lady Michelle Obama with a tribute award for her contributions to the fashion industry. As the super fashionable wife of Barack Obama, we can't say we're surprised!
According to the CFDA's President, Diane von Furstenberg, Michelle Obama's "meteoric rise in the world of fashion has echoed her husband in the world of politics."
Michelle wasn't able to attend the event, but sent a taped message stating, "This past year has been an extraordinary time for me... On behalf of women everywhere, I want to thank you for making fashion liberating, inspiring, but most of all, fun."
Celebrities that attended the event in Lincoln Center included, Blake Lively, Ashley Olsen, Claire Danes, and Heidi Klum. Two of Michelle's favorite designers, Jason Wu and Narciso Rodriguez, were up for awards at the event.
Tracy Ullman, the British-born host of the awards, joked that Michelle Obama shouldn't have worn a cardigan on her visit to meet the Queen. We might otherwise agree, but we think it was the perfect look for the First Lady.
