Miley Cyrus Wants to Get Edgier
Is she putting her money where her mouth is?
Miley Cyrus has been getting a lot of flack lately for claiming she doesn't listen to pop music (like Jay-Z). But, uhh, Miley Cyrus sings pop music. So, now Miley's claiming she wants to move away from pop and start doing something a bit edgier.
I don't know about this. Once you're comfortably situated in the music world, it can be really hard to change your image. We've seen it tried before- Jessica Simpson with country music for one. But the problem is, you already have your fan base and your haters and they're not likely to suddenly change their minds.
But Miley is going to give it a try. She says, "I want this to be my last pop record. I'm working on a record right now and I kind of want this to be my last record for a little while and then be able to take a break and just get all the type of music that I just really love - you know, my favourite styles and be able to have something edgier and not have to worry about people saying ‘Oh, well this isn't what her fans want to listen to.'"
Do you really think Miley's management is going to let her take a break for a couple years? And if she does, will her pop image just disappear? Miley Cyrus is only 17 years old. So, maybe if she comes back as a 20-something, she'll be able to pull it off. After all, as of now she's still acting in Hanna Montana, a Disney show. It's kind of difficult to get an edgy reputation when you're a Disney actress.
But Miley believes her fans will grow up too and their musical tastes will evolve along with her. She says, "Because at the end of the day, in a few years, as I grow up, so will my fans. And I won't have to maybe focus on that as much, and I'll be able to have more of the style of music that I'm into." Do you think she's right? Or do you think Miley is going to be stuck known as a pop artist forever?
