How did she choose her look?

We all happened to think Mo'Nique looked absolutely beautiful last night at the Oscars. And she just happened to have an amazing night, taking home the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Precious. But did you know a lot of thought went into Mo'Nique's Oscar fashion choices?

Mo'Nique looked stunning her her royal blue silk Tadashi Shoji gown, but she didn't pick the dress simply because she knew she'd look pretty or because her stylist told her to. There was a bit more thought involved behind the choice.

Mo'nique says the royal blue is the same color Hattie McDaniel wore as the first African-American woman to win an Academy Award in the 1940s. Hattie won the Oscar for her role in Gone With the Wind. And we love the special homage Mo'Nique paid to Hattie.

But there was more! Did you notice the flower in Mo'Nique's hair? Some people were confused as to why she'd don a flower, but Mo'Nique can explain. She says, "This is the flower Hattie McDaniel wore when she accepted her Oscars. So for you, Miss Hattie McDaniel, it's about time the world feels you all over them." Aww, we're loving Mo'Nique's thoughtfulness in choosing her outfit.

Mo'Nique says winning the Oscar isn't going to change her life too much. She says, "You know, this role was so not about my acting career... This role has shaped my life and allowed me not to judge and to love unconditionally. If that goes into my career, great, but if it doesn't and I'm just the dynamic person that I strive to be every day, then I've won, baby."

We wish more celebrities would put actual thought into their fashion choices to make them more meaningful.
