Sofia Vergara Had Thyroid Cancer at 28
Sofia Vergara has enjoyed tremendous success and exposure with the colossally popular TV series Modern Family, but she recently revealed a past health scare.
Vergara shared that she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer when she was 28.
Vergara, 39 now, told Nightline in a recent interview, "I was very young. And when they tell you that word, it's, like, ‘What are you talking about?'"
She continued, "You always think, ‘death.' That's all you think when they tell you that. So it was, it was pretty scary."
Thankfully, Vergara is a cancer survivor, sharing that you have to move forward and face responsibilities: "I think it's more like an unconscious thing of just, you know, keep -- let's keep going, let's keep going."
Vergara told Health.com, "Having cancer is not fun. You don't want to deal with anything else while you're going through it."
She was diagnosed with thyroid cancer early, after taking her son to an endocrinologist who wanted to check her as well -- "and he found a lump in my neck."
Since she never had any symptoms, Vergara said it was a bit confusing: "I never felt sick ... You want to be treated when you're feeling sick, when you're uncomfortable."
Vergara adds, "When you're perfect, to make the decision of going through all these, you know -- operations and treatment, it's a nightmare, because you're feeling healthy."
