Naomi Campbell Will Testify In Blood Diamond Case
No punching here, Naomi
You might remember that Naomi Campbell freaked out when asked if she received a blood diamond in the late '90s. She was not happy when she was asked, but now if looks like she'll testify about the rock after all, thank goodness.
There will not be any cameras to swipe out of people's hands now, Naomi! Us reports that Naomi was subpoenaed by judges in the case of former Liberian President Charles Taylor, who reportedly gave her a blood diamond in 1997.
"I didn't receive a blood diamond and I'm not going to speak about that," Naomi famously said when questioned about receiving a "huge" and "uncut" diamond.
A prosecutor in the case previously explained that Taylor's diamonds "made possible the continuation of the conflict" because the former president sold them to purchase weapons. At the time of the questioning, Us Weekly reported that Naomi "threw a punch at an ABC News camera and stormed out of a heated interview over an international controversy."
At first, it sounds like Naomi was presented the beautiful stones in a fabulous way, but who knows? Even though Us states that Naomi received them at a party, there's a good chance that she could have gotten the alleged stone(s) in an even shadier manner. Other reports claim that Naomi actually received the stones the next day, while staying at Nelson's Mandela's guest house. Mia Farrow told ABC:
"Naomi Campbell . . . said during the night some men had knocked on her door and she, half-asleep, had opened the door and it was representatives of President Charles Taylor and that they had given her a huge diamond. And we were like, ‘Oh, my gosh!'"
Naomi also told Oprah that she didn't want to have any drama about the diamond.
"I don't want to be involved in this man's case - he has done some terrible things and I don't want to put my family in danger," she said.
It sounds like things are heating up for Naomi, though!
