Natural Beauty: Make Your Own Cosmetics
Mixing It Up This Season
BellaSugar recently posed the question: do you make your own makeup? I've made a few things, but I'm more into beauty preparations for pre-bed and post-beach. If you're looking for ways to ease into DIY beauty, I recommend picking up a copy of my new favorite beauty book, Return to Beauty.
I've tried out quite a few organic beauty books in my time, but there's something different about Return to Beauty. I think it's author Narine Nikogosian's Eastern European background that adds something extra to the recipes-- how many American estheticians are going to tell you 10 ways that cabbage makes you beautiful?
While I was poring over the zodiac-focused beauty tips, I marked down specific recipes that seemed particularly doable. Each recipe had a few ingredients at most, and didn't use anything weird that you can't grab at the grocery store on a weekly trip.
Without further ado, this is my favorite recipe that I've tried out yet from the book. This mask is light and just "healthy" feeling, and it's one of the cheapest, too.
Gorgeous Girl Green Pea Mask
2 tablespoons frozen green peas
1 tablespoon plain yogurt
Boil the peas in a .5 cup of water, cooking for 5 minutes, drain, and allow to cool. Mix with yogurt in a blender, and while still warm, apply a thick layer to your face and neck and rest for 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water, and then apply your moisturizer.
Your face will feel very refreshed after you try this recipe, and I guarantee you that this is no frou-frou mix. While this book has some Sweet Lily-this and Orange-that, I think you'll find this vitamin-filled mask awesome for bringing color back to your winter face.
Do you ever mix up your own beauty blends?
