'New Moon': Highest Advance Ticket Record Of All Time
Congratulations, Twi-hards: you're part of the biggest pre-sale ever!
If you've already paid for your tickets to New Moon (which releases this Friday, November 20), you'll be pleased to hear that your rush was well-warranted. The whole world is clamoring for tickets to check out the second film in the Twilight Saga, and so many Twi-hards have already reserved tix that New Moon even has outsold 2005's Star Wars!
Ever since New Moon tickets went on sale on August 31, many fans have run to purchase their spot in the very first screening. This past weekend saw the highest numbers so far, however, with 86 percent of all New Moon ticket sales taking place between last Saturday and Sunday. And get this: Twilight brought in $384 million worldwide, and New Moon is expected to far surpass that figure -- nice paycheck, eh Robert Pattinson?
.
Fandango's chief operating officer Rick Butler says fans definitely want to feel part of the international Twilight/New Moon craze: "For many fans, it's clearly the year's most anticipated film event. Ever since tickets went on sale on August 31, it's been among our top five weekly ticket-sellers, as New Moon has a strong pull on audiences." Butler continued, "We're seeing a higher-than-than-usual number of tickets per transaction for this film, suggesting that moviegoers will show up en masse at theatres this weekend with their friends and family."
Will you be there? We will -- and we'll be back with updated sales figures next week!
