'New Moon' Rises Again at the Box Office
Movies making money.
Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner are on top of the world again. The vampire/werewolf duo reigned supreme at the box office for the second weekend in a row, as Twilight: New Moon added $42.5 million to its domestic total of $230.7 million.
New Moon's take was the largest piece in a record-breaking pie for the American box office this weekend, with a total just past a quarter of a billion dollars. That broke the record set in 2000, when Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Unbreakable helped sales reach $244.4 million.
Just behind New Moon this weekend was The Blind Side with $40.1 million. The Sandra Bullock drama, about a well-to-do white family who welcome in a young black football player, benefitted from good reviews.
In third place was the disaster flick 2012, with $18 million. The John Travolta and Robin Williams comedy, Old Dogs, did surprisingly well in fourth place with $16.8 million.
In fifth was Disney's A Christmas Carol, with $16 million, while the action flick Ninja Assassin was on the verge of bombing at $13.1 million.
